PRESS RELEASE: Feminist Foreign Policy Collaborative to Lead Design of New Accountability Mechanism for Annual Ministerial Conference on Feminist Foreign Policy

PARIS (October 22, 2025) The Feminist Foreign Policy Collaborative announced in the first plenary of the Fourth Ministerial Conference on Feminist Foreign Policy that, with the support of the Government of France, it will lead the design of a new accountability mechanism for the now-annual Ministerial Conference on Feminist Foreign Policy. This effort marks a significant step toward strengthening transparency for feminist foreign policies, and reflects the Collaborative’s long-standing commitment to ensuring that feminist foreign policy objectives are clear, impactful and measurable.

Building on years of nurturing a community of practice with governments, civil society and global partners, the new accountability mechanism will provide a structured framework and interactive dashboard for monitoring commitments, following implementation and mobilizing international and cross-regional cooperation on announced commitments. By supporting a shared approach to evaluation, the mechanism will help ensure that feminist foreign policy remains both impactful and responsive to the gender equality challenges of the moment. The Collaborative will work closely with the diverse expertise of its Global Partner Network for Feminist Foreign Policy throughout early 2026 to refine indicators, leverage opportunities and facilitate multi-stakeholder input.

“We’re doing a good job of understanding the challenges. We are doing a less of a good job of learning from victories — no matter how small. We will be launching an accountability project, with the support from the Government of France, to track and monitor commitments that are made at this Conference. This might sound scary, as if the activists are coming after you. No, it’s as much about telling the story of success, of leadership, of impact and of solidarity,” shared Lyric Thompson, the Founder and CEO of Feminist Foreign Policy Collaborative in her closing remarks in Paris.

As this work advances, the Collaborative aims to strengthen global coherence around feminist foreign policy principles and provide an enduring tool for accountability, learning and collective progress. The finalized mechanism is projected to be launched in 2026, looking ahead to the Fifth Ministerial Conference on Feminist Foreign Policy which will be hosted by the Government of Spain.

About the Feminist Foreign Policy Collaborative

The Feminist Foreign Policy Collaborative (the Collaborative) works to advance feminist approaches to foreign policy worldwide. By curating convenings, conducting field-shaping research and analysis and amplifying expertise, the Collaborative serves as a meeting point for feminists inside and outside of government to work together to ensure feminist foreign policies are ambitious, transformative and effectively implemented.

The Collaborative works in a secretariat capacity supporting the work of two coalitions: the Global Partner Network for Feminist Foreign Policy (Global Partner Network) and the Coalition for a Feminist Foreign Policy in the United States (U.S. Coalition). The Global Partner Network is an informal body of over 100 organizations, governments and individuals working on feminist foreign policy around the world; the U.S. Coalition unites more than 80 organizations advancing a more feminist foreign policy in the United States.

While the focus of each of these coalitions is different, the goal is the same: to ensure wider adoption of feminist foreign policy principles advancing a better future for people, peace and planet.
