Sobre el evento
Nos encontramos en un momento clave para el sistema internacional. En un contexto de rebalanceo de poder y de aumento de actores y articulaciones transnacionales anti-derechos, la comunidad internacional se prepara para la designación de la/el próxima/o Secretaria/o General de las Naciones Unidas. Ante este escenario, desde Amassuru iniciamos las discusiones sobre la posible elección de una mujer latinoamericana para liderar las Naciones Unidas.
Marita Perceval, una voz de referencia global en política exterior feminista, con décadas de experiencia en el sistema de Naciones Unidas, abordará los desafíos críticos internos que enfrentará la/el próxima/o Secretaria/o General: desde la burocracia y la reforma institucional de la ONU hasta la necesidad de un liderazgo capaz de construir puentes entre países con posiciones políticas contrapuestas en un mundo cada vez más fracturado.
Este evento se constituye como el inicio de un ciclo de debates hacia la I Cumbre de Amassuru que va a abordar perspectivas feministas y de mujeres sobre seguridad internacional y el multilateralismo. Con la cumbre, buscamos transitar de una posición de observación hacia una de participación sustantiva en los debates regionales sobre el multilateralismo. En tal sentido, el proceso de deliberación busca profundizar en el análisis de liderazgos que encarnan un compromiso firme con el multilateralismo, los derechos humanos y la integración de una perspectiva de género interseccional en la arquitectura de paz y seguridad internacional.

Marita Perceval | Presidenta, Feministas Sin Fronteras; Bécaria Senior, Colaborativo de Política Exterior Feminista
María Cristina (Marita) Perceval (she/her) is the current President of Feminists Without Borders in Argentina. Most recently, she was the Special Representative for Feminist Foreign Policy of Argentina. From 2021-2022, she served as the Secretary of Equality and Diversity of the Ministry of Women, Genders and Diversity of the Argentine Republic. Marita has held various Secretary and Under-Secretary positions in the Government of Argentina, including on portfolios regarding international cooperation on education and the promotion of human rights, focusing her work on the regulation of Argentina’s gender identity law and the launch of a support platform for women human rights defenders. In 2016, Marita became the Regional Director of UNICEF for Latin America and the Caribbean.
Notably, in 2012, Marita became the first female Permanent Representative of the Argentine Republic to the United Nations and was elected Vice President of the 69th General Assembly and Vice President of ECOSOC. She carried out two terms as a National Senator for the Province of Mendoza, serving as the first female President of the Defense Committee and creating the Women’s Caucus which coordinated to advance legislation informed by international women’s human rights law on the prevention of gender-based violence, combating human trafficking, promotion of sexual and reproductive health and rights.
As part of the inaugural class of the Feminist Foreign Policy Collaborative’s Visiting Fellows Program, Marita will focus her thought leadership and advocacy on strengthening regional efforts to advance feminist foreign policy with a focus on Latin America and the Caribbean and documenting good practices in advancing this agenda at the sub-regional to multilateral levels.
