About the Event

In preparation for the 5th Ministerial Conference on Feminist Foreign Policy and Gender Equality, to be hosted in Madrid, Spain on June 2-3, 2026, the Government of Spain and the Feminist Foreign Policy Collaborative (the Collaborative) will organize a consultation with civil society representatives on the sidelines of CSW70. The aim of this consultation is to gather civil society goals and insights for the design, delivery and outcomes of the Ministerial Conference.

Spain’s feminist foreign policy recognizes the critical role played by civil society in advancing gender equality and human rights. As such, the Government of Spain seeks to ensure their active participation in Ministerial Conference modalities. This builds upon and expands the precedent set by past Ministerial Conference hosts, who also engaged civil society representatives in conference planning processes.

Format and Participation

In its partnership with the Government of Spain, the Collaborative will support the design and facilitation of the consultation. The consultation will feature opening remarks by Ana María Alonso Giganto, Ambassador-at-Large for Feminist Foreign Policy of the Government of Spain, and will be moderated by Lyric Thompson, Founder and CEO of the Collaborative.

The consultation will be held at the Permanent Mission of Spain to the United Nations on March 10, 2026 from 11:30 am - 12:30 pm EST, and will welcome participants from civil society. The event will be hybrid (in-person and virtual); due to room capacity, in-person participation will be limited to one representative per organization (priority will be given to feminist and women-led organizations and representatives from the Global South). As part of the discussion, participants will reflect upon the following questions:

  • What priority themes and issues should the Ministerial Conference address?

  • For those who participated in past Ministerial Conferences (Germany 2022, the Netherlands 2023, Mexico 2024 and France 2025), what lessons learned would you share with the Government of Spain?

  • What commitments or themes would you like to see in the Ministerial Conference’s Political Declaration or outcome document? Are there any other outcomes you are hoping for?

  • What other key moments are important for the Government of Spain to consider in their consultation and conference design process?

  • How can civil society contribute to a successful Ministerial Conference?

Following this initial consultation, the Government of Spain will plan additional consultations with global and Spanish civil society.
